“Mediation? What does mediation do? Is it some kind of trial?”, “Madame mediator, are you a lawyer?”, – these are just some of the ideas constantly expressed by those in a conflict that show the misunderstanding of the procedure and therefore of the role of the mediator as well as the advantages of appealing at mediation. Unfortunately, those who suffer the most from this misunderstanding are the very ones for whom mediation appeared: those involved in a conflict, because by ignoring one of the options available to them when they decide to resolve a conflict, they can cancel their chances of reaching the best solution. Classically, when the stage of resolution by those involved is passed, the conflict is already intense, this being the moment when, depending on the importance of the subject in question, but also on the personality of each of those involved in the conflict, it is decided that things should either left as they have become (cold relationships maybe even broken, frustrations, blockages), or they turn to an authority, generally the court, in most cases with the help of a lawyer. What still too few people know is that in both variants’ mediation is a procedure that can be used to find solutions that satisfy each of the parties. In this book we will look at how mediation can do this and in what situations it can intervene with optimal results, and especially why now is the time for mediation. In a context in which the world is going through a major transformation, in which values and the way of living and interacting undergo essential changes and in an environment that is becoming increasingly oppressive and stressful, conducive to an increase in the number of conflicts, mediation can be the unlocking and solving solution in a personalized way.”
